Doing Great!

Heard from Chris and as always, he was doing great. He was in great spirits and said work was good. I'm not sure exactly what he does but he really seems to enjoy it and he said it is rewarding because he is making a difference.

Chris sent the above photo and said it was taken during a recent sandstorm. I understand that is a pretty common occurance. He said it's not too bad though...you just learn to deal with it.

He is so excited about the Spurs making it to the finals. We have to cheer extra loud to make up for his absence. He received his Go Spurs Go box and I think he's driving everybody at work crazy with the noise sticks. He is such a huge Spurs fan and is really missing getting to see them play for the title.

The other thing Chris has mentioned that he misses is bean and cheese tacos from Taco Cabana. Everytime he would fly home to visit, the first stop he would ask to make was to Taco Cabana. That boy has put away a lot of bean and cheese tacos during his college days and late night hours as a bartender. That was one of his favorite things to do after getting off work at 2 or 2:30 in the morning. He is looking forward to eating tacos until he can't hold anymore when he comes home on R&R. He is so easy to please. He said he could also use a Whataburger and a nice filet from Mortons of Chicago. I'm sure he will manage to work all those places into his schedule while he's on R&R.

Chris was excited that he had received a few care packages. It is still a huge morale booster for him when he gets mail. I think we are having as much fun coming up with new ideas as he is getting the boxes. The last box we sent was titled "Take Me Out To The Ballgame". I decided since Chris had been in baseball practically all his life, I would send him a baseball themed box. It was pretty fun...it contained a soft baseball, baseball bat filled with sunflower seeds, Big League Chew gum, The Sandlot (the movie), baseball cards, Cracker Jacks and some plastic baseballs.

Tomorrow we are sending a "Remember When" package. It has all his favorite childhood candy, favorite childhood snacks and a few of the toys he loved as a child (I had no idea GI Joe's were so hard to find these days). It was a lot of fun putting the box together and brought back A LOT of great memories.

It's amazing how good an email can make you feel. Just knowing that Chris is in good spirits is worth a million bucks!
