Seems Like Home Now

Today was a wonderful day...we got a call from Chris and he sent us a few pictures. He was doing great! Upbeat and bubbly as usual. He was back at the COP after a brief visit to the FOB. On Wednesday, Chris, Nick and Bill who lived together in Columbus had lunch together at the FOB...it was just like old times. He said it was nice to visit Hammer because he was able to eat good meals while he was there but he was glad to be back "home". In fact, today he worked on his room a little. He was finally able to hang his Spurs flag (just in time for the new season) and Texas flag. He also cozied up his bed with a new fleece blanket he had bought. Even though the COP is a little primitive, Chris has adjusted to it and it seems like home now.

Mail seems to be back on track, as he had gotten several boxes from Mary and the guys were quite excited. Mail call from Mary is like Christmas. This time they got 8 or 9 boxes of basic supplies. Mary also has 6 boxes of all Texas things headed their way. Chris' latest comparison is the Hormel Compleats to a Filet Mignon. He says the meals are awesome. It's so easy to please him these days. Just as he called, I was finishing up making his favorite snack of all time...Texas Trash. I told him he could start getting his tasters ready because I had four large containers heading his way.

Chris said they are still enjoying the Starbucks that the Middlebrooks keep them supplied with. The coffee is a lifesaver since sleep is so rare. I asked Chris when he sleeps and he replied..."sleep is a crutch". I guess Chris' days of working until midnight as a bartender in college, coming home, unwinding and studying until 2 or 2:30 AM and then getting up for PT at 5:30 AM are paying off.

He said the weather is a lot like it was when they first arrived in March. The days get close to 100 degrees and the nights are getting into the 60's. He was still very motivated about his job and continues to say they are making a BIG difference.

It is always so good to hear his voice. He is happy, safe, well and very anxious to come home. He said to be sure and thank everybody for sending him some awesome packages and for all the prayers. Chris continues to be very motivated and positive, thanks to all of his support.
